Peligoni Club Wine List 2013 White Wine

Bergerie de la Bastide Blanc 12% 2012

This refreshing white as its sister Rose comes from the same excellent cooperative based in the village of Servian near Beziers in the southern Languedoc. This yummy White is a combination of 60% Grenache Blanc and 20% each of Sauvignon Blanc and Ugni Blanc.  Scents of dried herbs, white flowers and green olives with a touch of citrus. Fresh and crisp lemon & lime and a refreshing finish of green apples. Great with seafood dishes.

CA DI PONTI CATTARRATO

Ca Di Ponti Cattarrato, Sicily 12% 2012

Ca di Ponti Catarratto – Great value crisp and fruity wine from the island of Sicily. Refreshing tropical fruit flavours and a delicately toasty character, with a hint of honeyed richness. In the past 20 years, Sicily has transformed itself from bulk wine producer to Italy’s most reliable source of inexpensive yet characterful wines. Investment in the cellars and increasing attention to grape quality and selection is delivering truly exciting wines. This little gem comes from the the region of Alcamo. Yields in these hillside vineyards give out a zesty, nicely textured white with peachy, lightly tropical fruit.

Macon-Charnay Cuvee a L’Ancienne, Burgundy 13% 2011

Fantastic entry-level burgundy white. Cuvee a L’Ancienne, like many vignerons in Burgundy, farms dozens of small vineyard plots in and around their village. These vineyards were certified organic (Agriculture Biologique) in 2009 & are all hand harvested and carefully guided through their slow fermentation with natural yeasts. Cuvee a L’Ancienne uses very little oak in all their winemaking, and almost none of it new oak. Most wines are fermented in steel and aged in large cement vats, or a combination of vats and used oak barrels.
Very close to Macon-Lugny, literally a 15 minute drive. Pale gold in the glass, this wine smells of honey, ripe apples, and wet stones. In the mouth it has a wonderful texture and bright acidity that clasps flavors of wet stone and lemon zest which ride airily into the finish.

Cheverny Blanc Domaine Salvard, Loire 12.5% 2011

A junior Sancerre, with more intense gooseberry crispness, you would expect from a New Zealand Sauvignon, mouthfuls of Elderflower & lengthy creaminess..making my mouth-water as I write this!! Excellent with Goats Cheese.

Sancerre Jeunes Vignes, Henri Bourgeois, Loire 12.5%

This is a cracking new wine added to our list only this February…An acclaimed producer whose wines exhibit the complexity of the terroir of Sancerre. This “Jeunes Vignes” Sancerre has lip-smacking minerality, hints of grapefruit and kumquat. Goes extremely well with Peligon’s seared scallops with crispy Serrano ham and fresh basil dressing.
